AirPods Pro Could Gain Heart Rate Sensors, USB-C, And More

If you’ve been holding off buying a new pair of AirPods Pro because you want to see what the second iteration has to offer, you’re in luck because it sounds like they could be pretty great.

According to a new report by 52Audio, the new earbuds will feature various improvements including USB-C charging and a new heart rate detection feature.

That heart rate detection feature is one that we’ve heard rumors of before, but now 52Audio believes that it will come as part of this new updated version of AirPods Pro.

Apple AirPods Pro 2 will be equipped with a heart rate detection sensor to collect and analyze the wearer’s inner ear data to monitor heart rate. It is said that this heart rate monitoring sensor also supports temperature detection, but it won’t be confirmed until the product is released.

The addition of USB-C charging is something that makes sense given the news Apple is set to move its iPhone and other products to the connector next year. The new report also claims that proper Find My support will be built in for the first time, allowing owners to locate their earbuds more easily.

Other improvements said to be part of this AirPods Pro update include temperature detection, improved hearing aid capabilities, and improvements to sound thanks to a new H1 chip. All of this will make AirPods Pro 2 the best earbuds Apple has ever sold, likely with a price to boot.

It is, of course, important to remember that this report isn’t on the money until we see Apple announce the product and associated features. Some of these features are ones that we haven’t heard of before and seem unlikely — the report claims that the new hearing aid feature will see sound “collected through the charging case and transmitted to the earphone for sound enhancement and playback,” for example.

As ever, we’ll need Apple to announce AirPods Pro 2 before we can make any real judgment on this leak.
