Airplane Passenger’s Fake Crime Scene AirDrop Grounds Flight

The next time you think you’re having a bad day, just remember it could be worse. That’s no doubt exactly what one 15-year-old high school student is thinking right now after unwittingly causing a Hawaiian Airlines flight to be grounded thanks to an AirDrop mistake.

The issue came after the student accidentally sent what appeared to be photos of a crime scene to five unwitting recipients aboard the flight, but as the student explains, the image is merely one from their high school medical-biology class.

As Hawaiian Airlines flight 23 was taxiing ahead of takeoff from Oakland en-route to Maui, the five passengers received an image that appeared to show a body on the ground, surrounded by evidence markers. After airline staff was alerted they, in turn, told the pilots, with the aircraft returning to the gate as a result. Thankfully it appears that the image was nothing more than a prop, with a mannequin lying face down on the floor. The whole problem apparently happened when the teenager tried to send the image to her mother but accidentally sent it to strangers on the place.

Alameda County Sgt. Ray Kelly shared:

“She was telling her mom about the class, and her mom supposedly just got a new iPhone,” Kelly said. “People were a little alarmed by it.”

He added that the girl was “very embarrassed” and “she was actually crying, so we had to console her a little bit — it was OK, it was a mistake.”

Finally, after clearing things up the teenager and her mother were booked on flights the next day, but the original flight did get to its destination after a 90-minute delay. Amazingly, the same flight also experienced further drama after a can of pepper spray exploded, too.
