5GHz Wi-Fi Now Supports 160MHz Channel Bandwidth Starting With iOS 26.2 And macOS 26.2

Apple has increased the speed at which some iPads and Macs can download files and more when using specific WiFi networks. The change comes with the release of iPadOS 26.2 and macOS 26.2.

According to an updated Apple platform deployment guide, spotted by MacRumors, compatible Macs that support WiFi 6E can now take advantage of the 160MHz channel even when transferring data over 5GHz networks.

Previously, 160MHz was limited to networks using WiFi 6E technology at 6GHz. That meant that devices connected to 5GHz networks were limited to the 80MHz channel.

MacRumors notes that most modern Macs and iPads will benefit from the speed boost, including the latest M5 MacBook Pro.

The M4 iPad Pro models, M3 iPad Air models, A17 Pro iPad mini, M2 to M5 MacBook Pro models, ‌M2‌, M3, and M4 MacBook Air models, and other Wi-Fi 6E Macs and iPads now support 160MHz maximum channel bandwidth when connected to 5GHz Wi-Fi networks, the same theoretical maximum throughput supported by 6GHz networks. Previously, these devices were limited to 80MHz.

The news means that those devices should be able to transfer data more speedily on compatible networks. However, devices connected to 5GHz networks that do not support the 160Hz channel will continue to work as before, with no speed boost experienced.
