The news comes from Neowin – a popular technology news website – in the form of a post in which they discuss the sales figures released by Microsoft.

According to the blog post from The Official Microsoft Blog, over 1.7 million units of the Xbox 360 were sold in USA in November, which is a considerable 23% increase over sales in November 2010. The figures are even higher than what were predicated by an analyst from Wedbush who claimed that the company would sell 1.4 million units.

Total revenue for Microsoft’s Xbox division in November was a whopping $1.4 billion. Keep in mind that this is US only.

Further, it is noted that these sales are higher than official figures released by Nintendo and Sony. The Wii sold 860,000 units, half of what the Xbox 360 sold, while Sony only stated that they saw hardware sales increase by 70% over last year for their “best ever Black Friday sales period”.

From The Official Microsoft Blog:

Today, Microsoft announced that the Xbox 360 has closed another impressive month, strengthening its position in the current-generation console market with record sales of 1.7 million units in the U.S. in November, the only current-generation console to sell more than one million units, and nearly double the second-place console.

According to multiple reports, Infinity Wards’ award-winning, record-breaking Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was the best selling game in November, with Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Battlefield 3 in second and third place respectively.

Speaking at an international level, Nintendo’s Wii is the most sold console for the seventh-generation of consoles with Xbox 360 in second place and PlayStation 3 in third. In the United States, though, it’s a different story as, currently, the Xbox 360 currently holds the spot for the number one console.
