Nintendo Switch Emulator yuzu For Mac, Windows Can Already Boot A Console Exclusive

When we told you about RyujiNX a few days ago, a new emulator for Windows that promises to be able to take some homebrew Nintendo Switch games and make them work on a computer, that was fine so long as you didn’t own a Mac.

It just so happens that those running one of Apple’s computers do have an alternative, however, and it’s showing great progress in the quest to get Nintendo’s best games running on a Mac.

Enter yuzu, an emulator that is not only available for the Mac, but Windows, too. So what exactly is yuzu? Well, since you asked…

yuzu is an experimental open-source emulator for the Nintendo Switch from the creators of Citra.

It is written in C++ with portability in mind, with builds actively maintained for Windows, Linux and macOS.

That’s not all either, because the folks working on yuzu have been able to take things a step further than getting homebrew apps to run in the emulator with a number of Nintendo Switch’s actual games now playable. In fact, we even have confirmation that one of Nintendo’s exclusives works, too.

At the moment, anyone wanting to play real retail games via yuzu will be able to choose from The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+, Puyo Puyo Tetrix, Cave Story+, and the biggie, 1-2 Switch. That’s not a bad start at all, although it could be a little while before anyone can expect to be able to play such behemoths as Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Still, this is not a bad start at all and shows that progress is indeed being made.

We’ll keep an eye on the progress of both yuzu and RyujiNX. Hopefully, both will continue to improve to the point of being capable of playing all those AAA games we love.
