@brimante: <br>1) These are still all rumours. We won't know the details until MS presents at the MWC next week<br><br>2) The rumours currently state that there's no backward compatibility with NETCF - that means that (if true), MS will not be supporting prior versions of NETCF, but WILL be supporting a newer version of NETCF. This is a good thing - although it'll mean a little more work for ISV's to port their code, the port is likely to be relatively trivial and will mean that their code will run on one mature, well tested and tuned NETCF reducing memory and storage footprint in the process.<br><br>3) My view is that the combination of NETCF, Silverlight and XNA are the killer triad for WinMo7 and are likely to be the most important reason why, perhaps, Flash isn't supported (yet?).

This really upsets me. All I can say is that I'm very, very disappointed there will be no multitasking or OEM interfaces. If I wanted an iPhone, I would have purchased one. Why would someone buy this when they can have a more mature version of it from Apple? I have stuck with Win Mobile because it has...had these features. I wanted to buy an HD2 because it would run WM7, but now I'm going to have to rethink that...... I'm a little confused about the NETCF support. Does this mean there will be no NETCF or just that it won't support lower versions of it? No big deal if it doesn't support lower versions of it. If it doesn't support it at all, that makes no sense. You just got rid of a HUGE group of developers. Being able to develop using almost the same code as the desktop Win OS was a huge plus.

Oi yoi yoi!

Did you see the bit about app restrictions? The "side-loading" of apps will be forbidden on Windows Mobile 7.

That means you won't be able to install apps downloaded via the web browser, or from SIM card. Instead, all apps must go via the Marketplace, which gives Microsoft control of what apps will be allowed on the phone.

This is definitely not an open platform. I think a lot of people will be disturbed by Microsoft's control of what apps you can install.

Jeewiz, I'm kinda disgusted right about now... no backwards compatability, no multi-tasking, no OEM interfacing, no local application support??? But lots of social support...
Really hoping this will change in near future, M$ should be careful to limit its users on its own terms, WM is no longer the only mobile OS on the market these days! :)

So basically, anything we had against the iPhone will be gone... I don't see how this will get MS into the game.
