I like in Vista the design and the fluidity throughout. I makes it appealing from a non Vista standpoint.
I dislike Vista’s computer navigation, like XP’s Window’s Explorer. It is difficult to navigate, and even worse to make function properly. The way the organize files, and label them makes it impossible to find exactly what you need quickly. Vista = anti-productivity

hi
the thing which i like most in windows vista is that its user interface is great and presentation .and the thing which i dont like is that it work with its own windows defender and do not give chance to another anti virus like i use windows live onecare so it take almost two weak to give a chance to this anti virus or virus scanning porgram.
thank you

The feature I like best about Windows Vista would have to be DirectX 10. Everything just looks so much better with this new technology. Games such as Crysis simply pop before your eyes with a nice DX10 graphics card.
The feature I hate the most about Vista is probably the navigation of the settings menus. I love how in XP, you can right click, go to properties and have everything neatly tabbed to select from. In Vista, you wind up having to read an entire lengthy explanation on what each section is because they decided that it was completely necessary to add in some icons and make the interface prettier, at the expense of practicality.

My favorite thing about Vista would have to be the snipping tool. I simply cannot live without that little devil sometimes….sure beats having to buy a 3rd party tool for simple functionality, which is all I require.
My dislike: Windows Explorer! If I open up a huge file with movies in it, it has to build all of the thumbnails, which can take a long time if you have a ton of movies (my folder has about 80 gigs worth of movies).
Thank you,
John

There are many things I like about Vista, and you don’t really think about them until you try using a Windows XP machine again. The UAC is making me feel in control of the computer as well and defaulting to non admin is alot better.
But the number one thing that comes to mind is the Vista’s new start menu, where, by default you can search for the program you need. Going back to XP after that will almost force you to introduce a 3rd party tool to do it just because it is such a productivity loss without it. It could of course be improved to be more scriptable, like quick silver on Mac or start menu ++ for Vista, but you just don’t know how much you needed it until you lose it.
The number one downside, by a large margin for me, is the missing feature of a built in (virtual) desktop manager. That really integrates with Windows so that it is always responsive, quick and stable. There are an endless amount of 3rd party software (cubedesktop, codeplex vdm etc), but they all work through ShowWindow API which just doesn’t make it smooth (at least I have not seen any that does it any other way). Compare that to the 3D desktop of Vista, however useless it is, it is smooth and responsive. The is a true productivity enhancer that I really miss from the X window system which has this well sorted out.
So if I could just request one thing for Windows 7, I think Virtual Desktop manager would be it (although built in remote powershell would be nifty (with port forwarding), built in desktop recorder (screencast), more control over the network profiles, when to switch to what wireless/ethernet, less DRM that has just caused troubles with my WMA store licenses, something like the apt-get system on ubuntu (at least for MS “free” stuff), more customizable hotkeys (WIN+1,2 hardcoded?) well the list can go on and on of course)

I just remembered a very annoying Vista bug, the fact that windows explorer just can’t seem to stop messing with the default view. If I set it to details, apply on all and untick remember settings for each folder, I really mean it. I don’t want it to suddenly swap the view and show different columns for media etc. Or suddenly switch to icon view.. highly annoying.
Sorry to post twice .. but it is really annoying

The one(out of many) things i love about Vista is that the start menu search, it has improved my speed of all my everyday tasks!
As for the negative, The aggravating 50 hoop jump just to get to the ol’ network connections… That drives me nuts as I use it often.

I like UAC; its worlds better then RunAS for the principle of least privilege.
I don’t like how the networking stack (which is a new one in Vista) is slower then anything ever (Vista’s performance otherwise is fine).

I set up a couple concept screens for a run, I might add more. These below are for the most part made of a basic screen and already available resources.

I like Vista’s look, but I dislike its networking, file sharing, UAC, driver incompatibilities and memory footprint (with Aero and Dreamscene).

Vista is the smartest os ever made.
Here are some examples
1. Calculates the spaces required in the disk prior to copying .( hate XP when it says not enough spaces while half way through)
2. Vista Automatically disables aero and frees up resources when they are in need!:D loved it at first sight
3. The way vista handles exception are good! It’s mostly accurate in pointing the problem!
4. Forgot to mention the automatic updates!! Find and update any driver without user involvement
5. Last but not least UAC also comes under this background processing. Though there are many how may disagree. I just loved it , ever since I came to vista ,I have not been infected by a single virus!!!(I have no antivirus installed in my pc). I don’t say my pc is virus free; But Vista is immune to all of it. These viruses are just dormant thanks to UAC.

Hi,
Well the best feature I liked in Windows VISTA Ultimate is the Start Menu “SEARCH” option. Any program can easily be found by just typing its name. In Windows XP, we had to search any program one by one by scrolling throughout the PROGRAMS folder in START Menu,an annoying hurdle especially if you have huge number of programs installed.
Also the Media Center is a great built-in software to manage all your multimedia stuff. It also offers robust & great user experience if you have a TV-Tuner installed on the system.
Another great feature of Windows VISTA is the DirectX 10. It offers stunning graphics over DirectX 9, when playing most advanced games such as Assassin’s Creed, Crysis (these are are the most heavy duty games, requring Dual-Core processing power as well as min. 256MB Graphics memory). DirectX 10 is also responsible for Windows Aero Experience (a supported Graphics Card is a must, such as GeForce 7 Series). It appears as if VISTA is fully utilizing the resources available on the system to maximize the the enchanting experience.
The most dissapointing feature in Windows VISTA is the Network Connections folder. If you have to disable the LAN Card, you’ll end up by searching the Manage Network Connections, and after 5 mins, you’ll find the LAN Connection.
Anyway, Windows VISTA is most stunning, robust & reliable operating system available.

I enjoy Vista’s eye candy but it’s hardware requirements are a little steep for me. I’m sticking with XP to which I have added many Vista like features.
