The holiday season is well and truly upon us, and with so many sought-after gadgets on the market, finding best offer can be somewhat bamboozling. Each of the major retailers will be grappling for the attentions of consumers, and two of the largest – Walmart and Target – have kicked things off with some great savings on iOS devices.

At least one Apple gadget tends to make the wish lists of the majority at this time of year, and with a new iPhone, iPod touch, and two new iPads having entered the fold in the last couple of months, 2012 promises to be the busiest yet.

The brand new iPhone 5, which boasts a 4-inch display, LTE radio, and dual-core A6 processor, is one of the most revered smartphone releases of the year. TIME magazine recently voted it the Gadget of the year – outdoing other significant releases such as the Samsung Galaxy Note II and Nintendo Wii U to the top spot. Walmart knows just how much of a pull factor the latest Cupertino handset is for enticing shoppers over the next few weeks, and as such will sell the 16GB iPhone 5 for just $127 on contract, starting today.

The iPhone 5 has been, like any new device, much-lauded since its arrival to market, but lest we forget about its predecessor which, with a dual-core A5, 8-megapixel camera and Retina display, is certainly no dud. If you want to save yourself a few bucks and still be in possession of a great smartphone, Walmart is also planning to cut the iPhone 4S from $89.97 to $47. Of course, you will need to be signed up to a contract, but it’s still one of the best deals on the market.

Not everybody likes the strings attached to a contract, and if you like the freedom of owning the device outright, you can grab Virgin Mobile’s prepaid 16GB iPhone 4S from Target for $399.99, with the price rising to $449.99 if you require more storage space.

If you already have the smartphone your heart desires, you could instead splash some money on the all-new iPad 4. The 16 GB Wi-Fi-only model of the fourth-gen device will drop a full hundred bucks to $399, and as if that wasn’t enough, they’ll also throw in 30 bucks worth of iTunes vouchers, but that will happen December 17 onwards.

Please note, the deals are only available in-store from both retailers.
