Use Your Android Device As An Extended Display For PC With ScreenSlider – Download Now

The defining factor of any showy-offy desktop setup is often measured by having two, three or more monitors connected up alongside each other to provide that extra width, allowing panes to be scattered easily and taking gaming to a whole new level. Plus let’s face it, it looks pretty cool.

In this tough economic climate though – and especially just after the festive period – that’s just not feasible for monetarily, leaving computer enthusiasts to look elsewhere for a tidbit more screen space. A little app for Android users called ScreenSlider may just be the solution to tide you over until you can afford a mass monitor spree.

For ScreenSlider is a tool which allows you to utilize your Android to extend the monitor and drag your cursor through the air rather magically from display to tablet/smartphone.

Here, we provide a step-by-step to help you along the way.

Taking the liberty of presuming you’ve a Wi-Fi connection, you will also need a Windows PC and an Android device – preferably not your main one. Even if you don’t have a spare device knocking around though, it’s probably worth giving it a try just for geeky kicks.

Step 1: Purchase ScreenSlider from the Android Market (download link at the end of this post). It’s 99 cents, so not too much of a burden on the bank balance; And hey, it’s a darn sight cheaper than purchasing a shiny new monitor – wouldn’t you concur?

Step 2: Once you’ve downloaded, you’ll need to request a download link for the ScreenSlider desktop client by providing a valid e-mail address.

Step 3: Launch ScreenSlider on your Android and enter a device name when prompted.

Step 4: Right-click the ScreenSlider icon in the System Tray and select Find devices.

Step 5: Double click your device in the list once it appears. A window pop up requesting you enter the code displayed on your Android device in order to pair device and PC.

Step 6: Agree to any license prompts that arise and you should be good to go. You may experience some flickering as the screen of your device initializes, but once that’s over with, you’ll be able to give your existing monitor a little relief by adding some extra space.

It’s a little laggy, as is the case with everything Droid, so don’t expect a seamless experience. Also, it does work for smartphone devices as well as tablets, but obviously you’ll get less value on the smaller unit.
