mee too dan i have rooted my nexus one… fallow the steps
Now choose “Apply sdcard:update.zip” and let things run their course.

but the same error 7… wht can i do?

I have exact same build,
Model Number: Nexus One
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-01117-g4bc62c2 android-build@apa26 #1
Build Number: ERE27

and get a error just after verify check saying apply_patch_check MTD;boot20930

any clue or advice ??

It's not working for me. I get the same error I got when it tried to apply the OTA update:
Build: RA-nexusv1.5.3

Install : SDCARD:update.zip ?
Press Trackball to confirm,
any other key to abort.

Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:No signature (208 files)
E:Verification failed

Installation aborted.

yes it will be unrooted, but bootloader will remain unlocked.

does this makes your phone ‘unroot’ again?
i have also a rooted phone with stock rom.
