It’s the weekend again, and even though many of you will be too wrapped up in the goings on with the World Cup to worry too much about great apps and games gone free for iOS, we thought we’d throw out a selection of our favorite deals for those who aren’t completely glued to their TV sets. There are five in all, and as ever, the range is fairly broad, so check out he list and hopefully, you’ll stumble across something you like!

This music-themed game is fantastic, because it allows you to become lost in a trance of your very favorite tunes. You simply fire up a playlist, and each song provides a new level, with obstacles appearing dependent on the beat and the rhythm. Having enjoyed this title for many years, I can vouch for the fact that it’s truly mesmerizing, and given its usual $2.99 price tag, this is a must-download game that will remain free only for the remainder of this weekend.

Frugal ($0.99 – FREE / iPhone and iPad)

Simply put, this app lets you add filters and text to photos, but does so with a degree of charm and finesse quite unlike the many hundreds of similar apps out there.

GPlayer ($2.99 – FREE / iPhone and iPad)

GPlayer, like VLC, is one of those great media players that can handle essentially any video file you care to throw at it, and with subtitle support as well as compatibility with most audio files – even those obscure ones – it’s a great tool to have in the armory.
