When you consider the fact that users are starting to embrace mobile based photography more and more, and mix it together with the diverse world of iPhone based accessories, then you get a perfect opportunity for innovative and unique products to take center stage. The Creative Focus Lens by Lensbaby Inc. is one such product that is attempting to break into that world.
The Creative Focus Lens is all about capturing creative images that step away from the ordinary iPhone photo by containing a “sweet spot“. The sweet spot as Lensbaby likes to call it refers to an area of the image that represents pure clarity due to the surrounding sections being blurred out to give attention to the part of the photograph that matters. Although the company behind the product has been building products for professional photographers for quite some time, this little mobile based accessory is its first attempt at conquering the iPhone accessory market.
The Creative Lens is all about pushing iPhone photographers into experimenting with their photography. The casually blended blur effect can be enabled in real-time to allow users to actually get a perfect understanding of the end result. It’s also possible to move the effect and filter around from within the app to ensure that the sweet spot of focus is perfectly aligned on the target. The lens itself will definitely appeal to fans of this hobby, and the ability to get it for $20 less than retail through Kickstarter is definitely an added bonus. However, there will undoubtedly be some questions arising about the method of attaching the lens and how effective it is.
Other accessories of this nature have often suffered from slipping away from the actual camera module at important moments. The Creative Focus Lens comes with an extra strong magnet in an attempt to eradicate that issue, but it still means that those wanting to use the product will need to attach a metal ring to their devices in order for the magnet to work. That would definitely rule me out of the game on this one, but for those who adore their photography this could definitely be one to check out.
