Whew, that took a long time! It was always inevitable that Microsoft was going to bring its famed Office Suite to mobile devices, since it’s too lucrative a market to miss. Still, the Redmond-based Windows maker is now said to be finally working on ports for tablets on both iOS and Android, a foreshadowing – we presume – to a Metro iteration in a future Windows 8 tablet.

How many times have you forgotten to send an email, make a phone call or send a text message? If you’re anything like us, then you’re probably forgetting way more often than you are remembering. It’s pretty important stuff, too. Forgetting to send a happy birthday text can cause more trouble than you would ever imagine, and we’ve all been there.

Despite actually being an altogether solid OS revision, Ice Cream Sandwich has struggled to reach the number of devices Google would have liked. Up until a couple of months ago, when Samsung’s Galaxy S II began getting a taste of Android 4.0, the total number of Android devices running the latest firmware was around one percent – which is, by anybody’s reckoning – disastrous.

From a software perspective, the most sought feature of the brand-new Samsung Galaxy S III is undoubtedly the S Voice feature, which is a similar implementation to Apple’s Siri voice assistant, which launched along with iOS 5 and the iPhone 4S back in October. That’s not the only new feature on the S III’s list of exclusives, and thankfully for those not planning to invest in the yet-to-be-released, uber powerful device, the Android community is frantically trying to extract the goodies from the ROM leaked earlier this week, and so far, it has been a pretty fruitful venture.

We’d love to post only positive news here regarding the fast-moving world of technology, but unfortunately, it’s becoming a case of another day, another malware discovered where Google’s Android is concerned, and the latest one is arguably the most alarming of all. Because while free apps often allow users to sample apps before paying for the full version, the latest chapter in the Android malware debacle actually charges users for the privilege of using free apps.

There are situations I face on a daily basis where I just wish I could just press a button and shut down all of the world’s noisiness. Android on tablets is something of a mixed bag. Effectively taking the smartphone incarnation of Android and turning into a larger version, Google added a few visual niceties that some would argue still don’t quite take advantage of the extra screen space afforded by something like a tablet.

Whether you go unsubsidized or take out a contract with one of the carriers, the purchasing of an iPhone is an expensive gig, and after paying an arm and a knee for the thing, it figures you’d also want a decent protective cover for it. This, of course, means more expenditure, and although cases and sleeves can be picked up for a couple of dollars on eBay, the ones that’ll actually help shield your device from the daily grind are not only fairly pricey, but can add quite a few extra millimeters of bulk to your device’s form factor.
