Having brought you a host of app deals through Thanksgiving, Christmas and the new year, we’re back with another stack of paid apps gone free to kick off 2015. There are eight in total, worth a combined $12, and if you’ve splurged much of your cash on gifts and such over the festive period, here’s a chance to make some savings without the usual cost.

Based on your lifestyle and habits, it makes an educated guess at how long you’re going to live, and whilst this sounds a little macabre, it may also shock you into taking necessary action.

This app offers convenient voice-to-text functionality, which is ideal if you’re a bit on the lazy side and don’t wish to type loads. Once you’ve turned your spoken word into editable text, you can then share it via email, social network, and so on.

Owen’s Odyssey ($0.99 – FREE / iPhone and iPad)

Quirky little 2D title that offers a similar plot to Super Mario World, with the graphics and charm of popular titles like Karoshi. Needless to say, if you’re a retro gamer, this is a must-have.

ARPhoto ($0.99 – FREE / iPhone)

This iPhone app allows you to add cool special effects to your photos. Unlike filters, layering and other general adjustments, ARPhoto offers movie-like effects, and as your can see from the screenshot, they’re pretty cool.

Typesetter ($0.99 – FREE / iPhone)

Simple app lets you add text to your photos; ideal if you wish to share with your friends on Instagram or set as your background wallpaper. You can add mantras, inspirational quotes, or simple notes, and with a bunch of great fonts, is well worth checking out.

Gismeteo ($1.99 – FREE / iPhone)

Yet another clean, feature-rich weather app that’s also very easy on the eye, Gismeteo includes all of the functions one could ever require in this regard.

Bubble Text Keyboard ($0.99 – FREE / iPhone)

As the name implies, this keyboard puts all of your letters into little bubbles, and you can use these alternative characters in any app.

MyKees Keyboard for iPad ($0.99 – FREE / iPad)

This keyboard isn’t too dissimilar from stock, although notably, is much more customizable. As well as tweaking the keys, you can also adjust the color of the keyboard itself, creating a unique aesthetic that meets your specific requirements.
