Snapdragon BatteryGuru For Android Will Help Extend Your Smartphone’s Battery Life

As smartphones have gotten better and more powerful, this has naturally had a knock-on effect with regards to battery life. The designers of the high-end handsets have had to think long and hard about how to keep the increasingly demanding feature set as juiced-up as possible, and although there have been some improvements from the early days of iOS and Android, devices seldom hold up beyond a day of moderate to high use. Chip maker Qualcomm, which develops processors for a fleet of Android and Windows Phone devices, has developed an app by the name of BatteryGuru which, it claims, will extend battery performance. As well as better battery retention, the app, which is still in beta, also purports to "improve overall user experience by intelligently making changes that optimize Snapdragon device functionality."

As the name of the app implies, your device will need to be powered by a Snapdragon processor in order to for BatteryGuru to have any effect, but if your smartphone does house the popular SoC, the app will help you to get a little more usage before the inevitable expiry.

Upon installation, it takes a little time to find its feet. In fact, according to the app’s description over at the Play Store, the app requires a "brief 2-4 day introduction period," in which time it teaches itself how you use your Snapdragon smartphone, thus seeking to optimize your device with as little interruption as possible.

Qualcomm wants to try and save some of those precious droplets of lithium, but goes out of its way to ensure that, once installed, you don’t have to do any faffing around. There are no speakable user configurations to mess around with, and instead, Snapdragon BatteryGuru automatically picks up on your habits and alters itself to keep you from wasting battery.

Snapdragon BatteryGuru operates quietly in the background and, over time, gathers an even more accurate picture of how you use your device, and how it can improve and adapt to your usage under the hood.

It’s currently at beta stage, but if you have a Snapdragon device, check out the link to the app below.
