downloaded snowbreeze 1.5 made a custom IPSW for my 3G 3.0 , tried to restore with itunes and i got “error (2)” switched to DFU mode got an error 1600. Downloaded 1.4 and made a custom IPSW again and same old error mesages. Waited for “ireb” program to get my DFU mode iphone to flash a red or white screen, waited for half an hour and it didn't flash. Reinstalled itunes, redownloaded a copy of a 3.1.3 IPSW but still no luck. I suggest anyone to just stay put for a while because this whole process took me a long long long ass time without any progress. I checked out a lot of forums and I read a lot of faqs but the itunes program just gives me the same old error. IREB still hasn't responded. Hope everyone else has better luck because my 3G will probably be stuck at 3.0 (at least for a little while longer)

A tethered jailbreak is moronic, IMHO. Turn off your iPhone on a plane, and it is DOA until you get to a computer? Come on. Not fatal, but pretty inconvenient. According to iH8Sn0w's site, there is no solution for the “tethered jailbreak” on new 3G S models at the present time, but I am sure that the rocket scientists that have figured out these great programs will soon solve this problem. After all, its only a matter of programming.

You have got to be kidding me!!! After Sn0wbreeze for 3.1.3 failed, I managed to get my iPhone back to 3.1.2 via iReb. Then, using Sn0wbreeze for 3.1.2, it created an IPSW file for an iPhone 2G! WTF! Over? Fortunately, I was able to use a Custom Restore IPSW from someone else.
