What’s better than selling 20 million smartphones? Selling 30 million of course, and that’s exactly what Samsung has gone and done!
Samsung may be in the middle of an almighty spat with Apple, but that hasn’t taken any of the company’s focus away from what really matters, and that’s selling smartphones.
According to a tweet that went out from the Samsung Poland Twitter account, the company has reached a huge milestone of late. Having announced just a month ago that 20 million Galaxy S III handsets had been sold, the tweet confirms that the number of units shifted has increased by 50% meaning 30 million units of Samsung’s halo phone have been sold worldwide.
That 30 million number includes both the international, vanilla Galaxy S III handsets as well as the various US-based variants that are sold by carriers in the States. It remains to be seen whether the release of the Phone 5, or indeed Samsung’s own Galaxy Note II will begin to slow sales of the flagship S III moving forward. A strong showing from Windows Phone 8 smartphones may also see the S III sales rate begin to plateau.
Samsung’s Galaxy S range of phones have historically been very good sellers for the company, and it is clear now more than ever that the third generation device is set to continue to tradition of eclipsing almost every other Android device of the generation. With the iPhone 5 now in the market and Samsung itself releasing new phones hand over fist however, increased competition is very much here. With the holiday season just around the corner, it will be interesting to see how the Galaxy S III sells over the next couple of months.
The Samsung Galaxy S III has been widely accepted to be one of, if not the best Android phone on the market for a while now. With the Google-blessed Nexus 4 on the horizon though, that may change. A slow rollout of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update by Samsung has not helped the S III’s cause of late, something which the Nexus line of smartphones just do not have to contend with.
All that’s left now is for the speculation surrounding the Galaxy S IV to begin. Shall we start off with a 5-inch 1080p screen, perhaps?
