Free app? Yes, thank you. It’s that time of the week again, where Apple throws a paid iOS app at us for free. Today’s title is one that has been specifically crafted for children up to 5 years of age. Usually retailing for $2.99 on the App Store, you can download it for free on your iPhone or iPad till next Thursday.

Called Sago Mini Road Trip, as the name suggests, is all about letting your kid take control of a road trip. The mission? To go meet your friends. The game is perfect for kids in the sense that there are no “what if” moments, and certainly no puzzles to solve. It’s a simple magical way of letting your kid pack some clothes in a bag, choose the mode of transport, throw the bag into the trunk of the car, jump into the driver’s seat, and begin the journey.

The developer has had quite a history with building games for children, and has had a remarkable well received run so far thanks to the simplistic approach for its titles that keep the children engaged while allowing them to freely express and even develop their imagination.

Go for a fun-filled drive with Jinja the cat. Pick a destination, select a vehicle and hit the road. What will Jinja drive today? Choose a sporty racing car, a jumpy jeep or a funny pickle car! Stop along the way to wash and fuel up. When the drive is done, a happy welcome is waiting for you!

In a similar fashion, Sago Mini Road Trip allows your kid to make stop overs during the trip to fill up on gas, or even ice-cream cravings. Pop a bunch of balloons, run into gift-wrapped boxes, and more; all of this without any pressure of time or rules. There are “more than ten vehicles, from racing cars to a shoe-mobile”, and “six destinations from magical mountains to the big city”.

To top it off, there are no locked items, and best of all no in-app purchases either. This, and some of the features described above, are part of the reasons why the developer claims that “millions of parents trust Sago Mini as the ideal first apps for their little ones”.
