Root T-Mobile Galaxy S Blaze 4G (SGH-T769) on Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread [How-to Tutorial]

One of T-Mobile’s latest smartphones – the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G – is also one of the latest Android smartphones to achieve root access. This one device was relatively easy to root, thanks to the unlocked bootloader that it comes with, but still, someone had to package the root method and make it easy for your Average Joe to root their Blaze 4G.

That someone turns out k0nane over on popular Android modding and development forums XDA-Developers where the developer posted the required files as well as a list of basic instructions. Another developer by the name of shabbypenguin has released ClockworkMod Recovery for the device.

Now, we’ve got a detailed and easy-to-follow step-by-step guide for you to root the Galaxy S Blaze 4G and flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Check it out after the jump!

Step 1: Download the following files:

Step 2: Extract the contents of ODIN’s .zip file to your desktop. Launch ODIN 1.85.exe.

Step 3: From the main menu, enable auto-reboot. Be sure to uncheck every other option.

Be especially sure that you have unchecked the option to Repartition. If you don’t, you will damage your device! (that’s what the developer says, at least)

Step 4: Click on PDA from ODIN and select the TAR file you downloaded in Step 1.

Step 5: Similarly, click on PIT and select the PIT file you downloaded in Step 1.

Step 6: Shut down your device.

Step 7: Connect your device’s USB cable to your PC but do not connect it to your device (i.e. only one end of the USB will be in use).

Step 8: Remove your device’s battery. Then, reinsert it.

Step 9: Now, press and hold Volume Up + Volume Down + Power buttons while simultaneously connecting your device with your PC.

You may leave the buttons as soon as you boot into Download Mode.

Step 10: ODIN should now detect your device. If it doesn’t, update your device’s drivers (get them from Samsung) and try Steps 6 to 9 again.

Step 11: Click Start in ODIN.

Your device will now be rooted! It will reboot automatically.

Flash ClockworkMod Recovery

Now, after rooting, you will obviously want to flash ClockworkMod Recovery. For, that, download the following files:

Click on PDA and select the TAR file. Similarly, click on PIT and select the PIT file. Follow Steps 6 to 9 to boot into Download Mode. Finally, click Start in ODIN to begin the flashing process.
