PlayStation Plus Goes Free For A Week Starting Right Now

Sony is about to flip the switch on a new PlayStation Plus promo which will definitely be of interest to current non-subscribers who have an array of games with multiplayer functionality but has been left unexperienced.

Starting right now, Sony is extending the grace of goodwill to all PlayStation 4 console owners in North America, giving them an opportunity to register for PlayStation Plus and try out the online service entirely free-of-charge for a one-week period.

Once upon a time, access to the online world of the PlayStation network was actually entirely free-of-charge, which acted as a major differentiator between the PlayStation and its main rival, Microsoft’s Xbox One.

Now however, Sony treats the PlayStation Network as a chargeable service, resulting in PlayStation owners having to pay a monthly or annual fee to access multiplayer and online content via the PlayStation Plus subscription. This has clearly been extremely lucrative for Sony, and has allowed the company to invest in additional infrastructure and features, but it seems the time has come to give the service a little push via this free-of-charge, limited-time promotion.

For the residents in North America, the free access to PlayStation Plus begins February 17th at 12:01 Pacific Time, and will come to an end on February 23 at 11:59 Pacific Time, giving a full week of unlimited, free access to everything that Sony’s PlayStation Plus offers.

When that offer ends, Sony will require all users who wish to continue using the service to stump up some cash to keep experiencing everything that the Plus subscription offers. And in case you are wondering, you don’t have to provide any credit card information or financial details in order to make use of this free offer.

Live in the EU, and feel like you are being neglected? Well, you won’t exactly get the same deal as your North American friends, but you will be able to enjoy four free days of PlayStation Plus access, starting from February 22 at 10AM, and ending February 26. It’s not quite seven full days of access, but something for free is better than nothing, right?

While multiplayer access and a number of the other features will be free, but those taking advantage of this Sony offer won’t be able to download any of the free gaming titles offered as part of PlayStation Plus, meaning you can’t download a ton of free games and then not renew.
