Who says that sixty-two year old magazine publications can’t embrace the digital era and give its readership what it craves? In response to almost 16 million people visiting the playboy.com website each month from mobile devices, Hugh Hefner’s Playboy publication has taken the digital leap and updated its mobile app called Playboy NOW.
The NOW app is the mobile response to the new playboy.com website launched back in 2014, a project that was undertaken to produce the “the greatest site the internet has ever seen.” We guess that will be a subjective opinion of course. The Playboy NOW app, available for iOS and Android devices, contains a simple, easy-to-navigate interface designed to give immediate access to playboy.com’s top articles, videos and photo galleries. Let’s make it clear here; the “photo gallery” offerings are not the type you’re thinking. The Apple iTunes team would never allow such content onto the App Store. This is purely a Playboy app for light reading and entertainment.
Installation of the official app will give users immediate access to a range of content. “The Daily” section serves up a daily curated list of hot articles dishing out gossip of celebrities, popular nightlife and the latest fashion trends adopted by the most beautiful girls Playboy can offer. Exclusive Playboy articles and a range of video content within the app is designed to let readers “become the suave, sophisticated and uniquely informed Playboy” they were meant to be.
According to Phillip Morelock, Playboy’s Senior Vice President and Chief Product Officer, the magazine has a “very engaged audience on mobile devices.” He also claims that the company has built this app for the millions of readers who come back to the website on a daily basis looking for the latest guide to life, entertainment, style, and of course, beautiful girls. There’s obviously a lot of research been placed into whether or not this app has a place, but for now, you can grab the extremely safe-for-work app yourself and see what you think.
