P0sixspwn Jailbreak For iOS 6.1.5, 6.1.4, 6.1.3 Gets Updated To v1.0.5, Brings A Number Of Fixes

P0sixspwn, the recently released tool behind the iOS 6.1.5, 6.1.4 and 6.1.3 untethered jailbreak, has today received yet another update. The development team behind the popular package recently released a version of the tool that would allow Windows users the opportunity to jailbreak their devices running legacy versions of Apple’s iOS. Rather than rest on their laurels, the team has clearly been putting the hours in since that release and have quickly followed up with a new push that sees both the Mac OS X and Windows offerings upgraded to version 1.0.5.

Version 1.0.5 of the freely available software fixes a number of bugs that have been reported over the last few days. The official announcement of the release doesn’t provide any granularity of which bugs have actually been eradicated but it should provide an altogether more stable experience for all who use it, regardless of platform. The push to version 1.0.5 also sees additional support being added for Mac OS X users. We aren’t quite sure how many Mac owners are still running OS X Snow Leopard, but for those that are then the good news is that the tool should now run smoothly.

P0sixspwn for Windows and Mac comes courtesy of iH8sn0w and Winocm and is the second jailbreak tool to be released in as many weeks that offers an untethered status to compatible devices. This particular package focuses its attention on the so-called ‘left behind’ users that either opt to remain on iOS 6.1.x or who simply can’t upgrade due to hardware limitations. There’s been quite a lot of controversy in the jailbreak community of late, some of which has been focused directly on P0sixspwn with the accusation being that a valuable exploit was burned to produce a jailbreak that only works with older, non-supported firmwares.

Putting the controversy aside it’s immediately clear that there is a market for an untethered solution that supports devices still running a point version of iOS 6. Apple’s decision to dramatically overhaul the operating system as part of the push to iOS 7 managed to alienate a heap of once loyal users. Rather than ditch the iPhone or iPad altogether it’s proven a more logical choice for those disgruntled individuals to forgo an upgrade and remain on iOS 6.
