OnePlus 6 Specs, Release Date, Price Announced Featuring Notch Display With A Chin Bezel At Bottom

After a multitude of leaks and pre-announcement speculation, the brand new OnePlus 6 smartphone has finally arrived in an official capacity. For those who love the OnePlus hardware, this announcement is going to be huge as the device comes with the biggest overhaul in years.

Rather than being a simple generational improvement, what we have with the OnePlus 6 is a total visual overhaul.

Consumers will have the choice of purchasing the hardware with either an aluminum or glass rear, both of which are finished in stunning black, with Mirror Black offering a shiny finish and the Midnight Black coming with a matte finish which is supposed to give the hardware the feel of premium ceramic. If that’s not to your liking, then it’s also going to be available with a Silk White option as well as an Avengers Edition if you can’t get enough of superhero-related goodness.

Specification wise, those interested in the gorgeous OnePlus 6 are going to be looking at a 6.28-inch AMOLED display with a 2280-by-1080 pixel resolution covered in the extremely tough Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

If you’re looking at the official images of the hardware, then yes, you will realize that it does come with a notch at the top, which like iPhone X is used to house sensors as well as an LED notification light, a front-facing 16MP camera, and the necessary earpiece. Unlike iPhone X though, there’s a chin bezel at the bottom the likely reason for it is this.

The 16-megapixel camera on the front can be used for instantaneous selfies as well as Face Unlock. It’s important to note that the Face Unlock feature of OnePlus isn’t as secure as Face ID on iPhone X as it only uses the normal front facing camera and not specialized depth sensors like Apple’s TrueDepth module for unlocking the device. For more secured authentication, OnePlus has added a fingerprint scanner on the back side of the phone.

Speaking of the back side, the primary camera setup on the rear is a dual one, with a 16MP and 20MP module setup; both oferring a f1.7 aperture in addition to OIS and EIS.

Under-the-hood is a Qualcomm 845 series processor with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and either 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB of internal storage depending on how much you need and how much you want to pay for the device. It also offers a 3,300mAh battery with Dash Charge and offers water resistance against splashes. Be warned; do not dunk this beautiful device in water or submerge it; it is only splash resistant.

For those interested, OnePlus 6 will be offered from May 22nd in Midnight Black and Mirror Black starting at $529. The Silk White option will take slightly longer, shipping on June 5th, with all order benefiting from a free pair of OnePlus Bullet Wireless headphones.
