Apple Now Selling Official Refurbished iPhone Models At Lower Prices

The Apple Certified Refurbished portal is finally offering refurbished iPhone handsets. The online store, which has been home to refurbished Macs, iPads and iPods for a while now, was recently updated with a section dedicated to the company’s premier mobile product, with that section currently populated with refurbished iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus at significantly reduced prices.

What makes these different from the refurbished iPhone handsets available through several third-party retailers is that they are certified by Apple itself. What that entails is a rigorous replacement, cleaning, testing and quality assurance process as well as a one-year guarantee.

In the case of the iPhone, specifics include a new battery and outer shell in addition to the aforementioned.

All refurbished iPhones are, of course, unlocked and SIM-free. Refurbished iPhone 6s units start at $449 for the 16GB version, which is $80 less than the price for a new one, and $529 for the 16GB iPhone 6s Plus, which is $100 less than a fresh purchase. That’s a 15% discount on all units. It might not be as big of a price cut as you might be able to get elsewhere, but you will be getting Apple’s guarantee of quality, and if you do happen to find an issue with your refurbished device, there’s always that one-year warranty and free returns policy to avail.

This is the first time Apple is offering refurbished iPhones through its own store. Till very recently, users only had third-party retailers the likes of eBay to turn to for used or refurbished units, and those aren’t always as “mint” as advertised.

If you were thinking of upgrading from an older iPhone without breaking the bank, but were a tad apprehensive of shelling out for third-party deals and refurbished units, now you have another, more reliable option to consider. You might want to get to it, though. Refurbished stock may not last forever.
