There is no way to upgrade your 3G iPhone to make it become a 3GS iPhone as they are two separate entities that are just very similar. Basically, the 3GS iPhone was released after the 3G and featured minor upgrades in the actual hardwarde and some new applications/software were also added, such as the ability to record video, modify voice control, a compass…etc…But honestly as long as you have not upgraded you iPhone to the 3.1.3 update from your iTunes section then you have the ability to jailbreak your iPhone, thereby unleashing the ability for you to use your iPhone 3G to it's full potential. If you jailbreak (use youtube, bossprefs for guidance) you can then download applications that release the constraints placed on your camera by Apple and now be able to video record. Pretty cool huh? The way I like to explain to others as to why jailbreaking your iPhone is essential is this…, “Why would you buy a Ferrari that has a govener on it?”…..You wouldn't, would you? Your iPhone has a govener (restrictions to using it as you should be able to), until you jailbreak that is I hope this helps

And then 6 months after the 4G comes out, can we look forward to the 4G S, a phone that includes features that SHOULD have been included with the 4G to begin with, like vowels on the keyboard, an on switch and a battery inside. Then people will marvel over what a wonderful device it is, and how other products, like Android enabled phones, haven't made this much progress in two years, despite having vowels since day one.
