All the New Features of iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 4 in One Place

Apple has made iPhone OS 4 Beta 4 available for developers at the Apple Dev Center portal. This new Beta brings lots of cool new features over the last Beta 3 release. Here’s a list of all the features new in iPhone OS 4 Beta 4.

Support for Landscape Orientation in Photos App

Starting with OS 4 Beta 4, Photos app now supports landscape orientation on iPhone and iPod touch, unless you have orientation lock (also new to OS 4) turned on. This change might suggest that full landscape support like iPad throughout the springboard is coming soon to iPhone?

Springboard Utilities Folder

This is a really welcome change in this Beta build. Be default, there’s now a new folder in the springboard called “Utilities” which consists of stock apps like Clock, Calculator, Voice Memos and Compass. It’s great to see all the common task apps together in one place. Hopefully in the final build, there will be an option to download more apps which would fall directly under a specified folder.

New Set of Wallpapers

Apple has finally updated the stock wallpapers in iPhone OS 4. Unlike the ones that we have been using since iPhone 1.x days, the new set of wallpapers are not distracting, making them a nice choice for home screen backgrounds.

AT&T Native Internet Tethering

After a long wait, it’s finally here. AT&T users can now have Internet tethering natively from AT&T itself. You no longer need to install third party apps like MyWi for it. All you need is to make a phone call to AT&T to enable tethering, but it’s a feature we’ll see in action in the final build.

Custom Dictionary

Yes, with iPhone OS 4, you will have a custom dictionary to add your most frequently used words. You can find it under Keyboard settings.

These are some of the few hundreds of features in the new iPhone OS 4. We believe that the final version of the OS 4 will have a lot more to offer and will unleash a whole new iPhone experience for the end-user.

Apple is expected to unveil the next-generation iPhone for general availability at the annual WWDC 2010 conference on June 7. iPhone OS 4 is also expected to be released at the same event. [via Gizmodo]
