Memes are, on the whole, hilarious, and are part of the reason why sites like 9GAG have become so popular over the past couple of years.
If you don’t know what a meme is, then allow me to introduce:
This is me, meme’d. It’s hard not to laugh, and although there are many, many apps allowing you to copy and paste memes into messages, create your own memes and share them with friends, today we’ve found a great app for iOS which detects your face, allows you to select your desired meme, and take the shot.
With Memefier, you can utilize both the front-facing and main cameras, and you can do multiple memes in one shot if you’re snapping a group of people. Simply tap the “multiple memes” in the mode menu, select whichever memes take your fancy, and then take the picture.
The app is extremely simple to operate, and offers a clean, visually pleasing dark interface – complimented nicely with hints of blue and gray. There’s the usual dosage of social sharing options, as you may expect. You can send via Twitter, Facebook, or email, but since images save to a special Memefier, you can easily and quickly upload them to Instagram, Piictu, or whichever other social network you like to use.
Through in-app purchases of 99 cents, you can pick up various packs of extra memes, all of which contain twelve different faces. There are six packs in total, and you can – as I did – grab the whole lot for $1.99. Even if you don’t want to shell out any of your hard-earned cash, there are eighteen default memes for you to choose from, which is more than enough to make some pretty funny images of you and your friends and family.
If we’re being critical, this app could certainly do with the option to add some form of text. To me, a meme is not complete without the accompanying one-liner, and although I searched through the app and its description, there’s not trace of the option.
To conclude, there are plenty of great memes for your entertainment, but if you want to add a funny caption, you’ll have to do it separately.
