Marvel Unlimited Subscription Brings 13,000 Comic Books To iOS

For a long time, many comic book lovers have been trying to bring all of their comic books onto their iPhones, iPod touches or iPads while preserving their quality. If you have $10 per month to spare, Marvel may have just come up with the perfect solution for you: a comic book subscription which gives users access to 13,000 back issues of Marvel’s comic books, with the promise of more to come.

The new subscription is available in the form of an app, which can be downloaded from the iOS App Store completely free of charge. From there, users are able to try out the service by viewing a few issues for free as well, before going ahead and purchasing a subscription. Once you have made up your mind, you can purchase a subscription, which will give you unlimited access to all of the available content, for $10 per month or a “special” yearly subscription for $60 (that is half of the price of an usual monthly subscription).

Navigating comics seems quite simple: the main page features some of the newest comics, which can be previewed with a tap of a finger; for those users particularly interested in a specific character, they are able to browse comics by character, providing easy access to a rather vast amount of back issues of comic books associated with that specific character. Once you have settled for the comic book you wish to read, you can simply click on “Read Now” to start enjoying it, or add it to the library in order to access it later.

There seem to be quite a few original drawbacks to this app. While a “read offline” feature is present, only up to 6 titles can be saved locally at one time, which may become quite tedious for users who do not have access to a permanent Internet connection or are on expensive data plans. The user interface is also said to lag once in a while, which can become a bit of a drawback.

While only 13,000 comic book issues are available as of yet, more are promised to be added soon, but only those older than 6 months. Current comic books can be obtained through the already available Marvel Comics app, which is also available for free from the iOS app store.
