macOS 10.12.2 Beta 3 And tvOS 10.1 Beta 3 Available To Download Now

Apple has now seeded beta 3 of macOS Sierra 10.12.2 and tvOS 10.1 for Mac and Apple TV respectively to users registered as developers on the Apple Developer Program.

These latest betas come hot on the heels of the release of iOS 10.2 beta 3, enabling Mac and fourth-generation Apple TV owners to get in on the action with the latest pre-release seeds designed to push these platforms forward. Here we’ll take a look at each one of these releases one by one.

macOS 10.12.2 Beta 3

This latest beta 3 pre-release seed builds on the earlier betas of macOS 10.12.2, and as expected, comes in as a minor point update with no new outward changes or features to take us by surprise, at least for now. As always, the build contains a bunch of bug fixes and performance enhancements, including enhanced support for Touch ID and Touch Bar that the new MacBook Pro comes equipped with. Those looking to update to this latest pre-release seed on their Mac can simply head over to the Mac App Store and initiate the update via the Software Update mechanism. Those of you who are not yet registered as developers will first need to head over to developer.apple.com to initiate the registration and download process.

tvOS 10.1 Beta 3

Things start to get a little more interesting with the release of tvOS 10.1. With this version of the Apple TV firmware, Apple has not only introduced the highly anticipated Single Sign-On feature that allows users to authenticate once, and gain access to multiple services, but is also expected to introduce the new TV app that was recently teased at the company’s “hello again” Mac event. Aside from that, Apple doesn’t appear to have introduced any additional outward-facing changes into the platform, and has instead chosen to focus on stabilizing and enhancing the experience.

Installing beta updates, or any firmware for that matter, on an Apple TV can be a little more troublesome than on some of Apple’s other devices. For anyone who has a beta configuration profile installed (requires connection to a Mac or PC via USB-C cable and iTunes) on the Apple TV, this latest tvOS 10.1 beta 3 seed can be downloaded and installed as an over-the-air update immediately.
