LifeProof has used CES 2016 as a follow up to October’s FRĒ Power case announcement for the iPhone 6s. The reputed manufacturer of cases for Apple’s smartphones has now extended its range to cater for those with the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone 6s Plus. The introduction of the LifeProof FRĒ Power for Plus phones means that Apple’s jumbo-sized devices now have a waterproof battery case accessory for the very first time.
The FRĒ Power for iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6s Plus is everything that you would expect from a premium protective case, and a whole lot more it seems. The protective rating of the new LifeProof offering is able to protect the encased valuable iPhone from ingress of dirt, dust, snow, and even offers a high level of protection from damage that could occur due to accidental drops. Obviously it doesn’t make the iPhone indestructible, so don’t get carried away testing out its protective nature. It should certainly protect against everyday drops from heights of 2 meters or below.
The IP-68 rating of the case also means that the iPhone 6 Plus and 6s Plus are finally waterproof. Sliding the 5.5-inch device into the FRĒ Power case will allow the phone to be submerged in water up to 2 meters for up to an hour without any damage to the phone. The same IP rating is what also prevents unwanted access from a range of other elements as mentioned above. If all of that wasn’t enough for you, then there’s also screen protector that adds the final protection by ensuring the stunning display of the iPhone doesn’t get scratched.
The jumbo-sized LifeProof FRĒ Power also features an integrated 3,200 mAh battery that should theoretically be good enough for one full charge cycle of the 6 Plus/6s Plus. LifeProof has also had the foresight to integrate a little bit of intelligence into the case to ensure that it maximizes battery life as best as possible through Auto Stop and rapid recharge tech. If you have had one of LifeProof’s cases in the past for an earlier iPhone model and have been waiting for this version to come, then the time is finally now.
The LifeProof FRĒ Power for iPhone 6s Plus will be “available soon” for $149.99 in either Base Jump Blue or Blacktop Black colors directly from the LifeProof website.
