iPhone 6s Shutting Down Unexpectedly? Apple Will Fix For Free Even If Out Of Warranty

If your iPhone 6s is shutting down unexpectedly, Apple’s fix is free battery replacement even if it’s out of warranty.

The Cupertino-based company has been going through the process of investigating the issue, and has today launched a dedicated repair program that allows those suffering from the issue to have it resolved without charge. As part of the repair program launch, Apple has made owners aware that the problem is only affecting small number of devices within a limited serial number range, all of which were manufactured between September and October 2015.

Due to the Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 debacle – which started catching fire and exploding presumably due to a faulty battery unit – Apple has been keen to stress in the announcement that the issue being faced by the iPhone 6s is “not a safety issue”, and that device owners aren’t in any known danger from the hardware.

With that said, the end result for those affected by the issue is a free of charge battery replacement, carried out in an Apple Store or via an official reseller, meaning that Tim Cook’s company has clearly identified the battery in those limited number of devices to be the problem.

Apple has determined that a very small number of iPhone 6s devices may unexpectedly shut down. This is not a safety issue and only affects devices within a limited serial number range that were manufactured between September and October 2015. If you have experienced this issue, please visit an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider and have your device’s serial number checked to confirm eligibility for a battery replacement, free of charge.

Anyone who believes they are suffering from the issue can make an appointment with their local Apple Store to have the device examined to check that it’s in working order, and then to make sure that the serial number of the device is part of the batch affected. Once that has been confirmed, Apple will then replace the battery without fuss. Alternatively, those affected, can also contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact Apple Support directly.

Wireless carriers are not participating in the repair program at this stage, and anyone who may be affected can find out more about new initiative from here.
