iPhone 6 Plus Helped Apple Gain Market Share In Asia, Samsung Still Struggling

It seemed that everyone had an opinion on whether Apple should launch a large iPhone before we actually got two in the shape of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but according to newly released figures, all that hot air actually turned into cold hard market share around the globe. Most notably though, it meant that Apple could take the fight to Samsung in its own backyard.

With iPhone sales growing by a massive 26% globally during November when compared to the previous year, but while impressive it’s the fact that Apple now accounts for a third of all smartphone sales in Samsung’s native Korea that will have the Galaxy S maker more than a little concerned.

While Samsung still dominates in its home territory with 44% of the market, Apple’s increase to a 33% share is remarkable. It’s also being noted that no foreign brand has ever been able to get more than 20% market share in Korea which makes Apple’s achievement even more startling.

The reason for the sudden success is, according to researchers, the addition of the iPhone 6 Plus into a market that traditionally favors the larger smartphone over the more demure dimensions offered by Apple’s older products. In fact, the belief is that Apple would have sold even more of its iPhones if it had been able to keep the 64GB and 128GB versions in stock.

Huge gains weren’t reserved for Korea either, with China seeing a 45% increase in iPhone sales year-over-year in during November of 2014.

The arrival of the iPhone 6 Plus in particular was expected to see Apple make inroads into a market that has traditionally been owned by Samsung and its Galaxy Note line of smartphones. It is now becoming clear that plenty of those carrying so-called phablets were in fact keen to make the jump to iOS once Apple gave them the option.

The only question now is why it took it so long to get the message.
