Microsoft Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner at the Financial Analyst Meeting today has revealed that the Redmond based company is planning to drop a beta version of Internet Explorer 9 sometime in September of this year. Sources at Neowin has given September 2nd as the possible date for the release.

A Chinese website, which goes by the name of cnBeta has managed to get its hands on some leaked screenshots which shows off the new Download Manager, and Google Chrome like “Popular Sites” page in action. While most of the UI is currently same as its predecessor, according to Tom Warren of Neowin, IE 9 will get a much needed facelift before it is released to public.

Am I the only one? Who cares…?
Okay, I slightly care because someday perhaps Windows users will actually use this version and be somewhat standards compliant – dragging all those stupid websites based on “FrontPage” and IE6 (or whatever) into the 21st century.
I can hope.

A new tab page and a download manager… You really can say that IE has caught up now. It looks like the best ever!</sarcasm>
Seriously, there is NO WAY left for Microsoft to improve their products. The old quote was, “Redmond, start your photocopiers.” Now, it's more like, “Redmond, we'll get some photocopiers in a couple years.”

By the way, is that the new logo? It looks shockingly… You finish the sentence.

I thought they were going to do something with the Tabs .. like the new Firefox (beta) or Opera. This design reminds me of IE 7 and IE 8 both of which have not been very friendly. I love IE but it has failed to love me back. Maybe this year will be different. I cannot wait to test it

In internet explorer 8, disable the favourites, and the menu bar on the tooolbar, open a second ab, and Voila IE9 screenshots! I don’t think this is the real IE9
