In what looks like a backlash than anything else, HTC has responded to Apple’s patent lawsuit by filing a complaint with ITC (International Trade Commission), asking for sales ban on iPhone, iPad and iPod in US due to alleged infringement of five patents. This story in now turning similar to Nokia and Apple one in which both the parties have filed federal lawsuits against each other.
An extract from full press release is as follows:
HTC Corporation today took legal action against Apple Inc., filing a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) to halt the importation and sale of the iPhone, iPad and iPod in the United States.
The five patents in question are.
- Method for power management of a smartphone [Details here]
- Telephone dialler with a personalized page organization of telephone directory memory [Details here]
- Telephone dialler with a personalized page organization of telephone directory memory [Details here]
- Telephone dialler with easy access memory [Details here]
- Power control methods for a portable electronic device [Details here]
Even though these don’t sound as strong as the 20 filed by Apple in their lawsuit, it will be interesting to see what ITC has to say about this. HTC only has to prove one of these to win this case over Apple. [via Engadget]
