I've had my Droid at 1.25 Ghz... but it gets too hot. I'm afraid I'll fry it so I have my alarms set at 43.7 c/109.4 f.

I'm running 1.15 Ghz right now... and it's sitting at 37.0 c/98.6 f....

It's stable, too.

Oy... go to forum.xda-developers.com

The processor is still the same regardless of initial speed. It is like an Intel i5-5x0 to any other i5-5x0. One might start higher but they're the same exact chip with (basically, not counting multiplier) the same capabilities.

Late reply but my two cents.

@ Kirk

I've been using the 800mhz overclock since the day it was available.. battery has been the same, as far as I can tell. the past few days, i've used the profiles function in setcpu and set the phone to use only 125mhz when it's asleep/standby. it's a huge speed increase with no negative effects to the battery, as far as i can tell!

I work for TI. We make the processor in the Droid. That chip is an OMAP3430, which runs at 600MHz with highest yield, lowest power, and longest life. That same chip can run at 800MHz+ with lower yield and greater power consumption. The follow on product to the OMAP3430 is the OMAP3630, which runs at 800MHz on the low end, and is shaping up to have great stability and power at 1GHz. We've run benchmarks on our Zoom 3 platform in Android and we're seeing really impressive numbers, significantly better clock for clock than the Snapdragon in the Nexus One. Look for OMAP3630 based devices coming soon this year.
