If you remove the micro sd card and using a card reader connected to a computer running a partition editor, then there is no possibility of harming the phone.
g parted can be run from a computer with a Linux OS or from a live bootable cd on a Windows machine.

It's not a Hero. Rogers and an italian phon company have a different revision of the Dream/G1 that had different buttons.
