How To Get A Reminder / Memo Alert On Your iPhone’s Lock Screen

LockMemos is one of the latest tweaks to land on the Cydia store for jailbroken devices, and although, it doesn’t bring an eye watering amount of additional functionality to the iPhone, the obtrusive nature of its feature set may be beneficial to those who constantly need reminding of things. Whenever LockMemos is active, the device will display a standard iOS formatted alert to the user to remind them to carry out a specific task or complete a certain chore.

When the package is installed from Cydia, the user is afforded the ability to amend and alter a few settings through the dedicated preferences panel that is installed into the native Settings app. The tweak appears to allow space for four individual memos or reminder alerts to be entered, but when a text string is entered, it transpires that each box is required for multiline entries. Considering locking and unlocking the device is one of the most frequent things we do with our iPhones, it is a very effective way to get the message across.

The preferences panel also allows the user to choose when the entered memo is displayed. If the default On Lockscreen option is left in, then the reminder will appear as an alert directly on the lock screen without any additional user input. When the device is unlocked and locked again, the same memo does not appear. If On Unlock is selected, then nothing is actually presented to the user until they unlock the device and see their first home screen. The alert view can then be dismissed like any other standard alert in iOS.

LockMemos is one of those packages which has been created for the sake of creating something. It will definitely be beneficial to a number of users who prefer a simple and effective way of presenting a small amount of information as a reminder, but it’s evident that not a lot of thought has been put into the package to ensure that power users or those who care about the user experience to continue with this tweak after an initial test phase.

LockMemos is available as a free of charge download from the BigBoss repository with no specific iOS version requirements being given.
