When it comes to major mobile gaming releases, it’s fair to say that Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform is frequently left out in the cold. But Rockstar Games, having recently ported GTA: San Andreas to Apple’s iOS as well as Google’s Android, has finally brought said title to the Windows Phone Store. It was supposed to arrive last month at the same time as the Big Two, but despite taking an additional few weeks, it’s finally ready for prime time. Check out the details after the break!

While Windows Phone continues to play a rather distant third to iOS and Android, it’s always going to be the case that developers look upon it less favorably and thus, drag their heels when it comes to releasing apps and games for it. But while Rockstar has taken its time in bringing this game out for the Redmond company’s smartphone platform, it’s not been as lengthy a wait as for the Instagram app, for example, and hey, those more impatient folks now have arguably the perfect game through which to vent their frustrations.

San Andreas was a huge hit on the PlayStation 2 back when it first released, and while the mobile version offers more of the same, the usual, touch-friendly optimization has taken place to ensure things work seamlessly on the modern interface. One great things about these GTA re-releases for mobile thus far has been the smooth and user-friendly controls, which are not only nice to use, but very customizable, and if you wish to tailor the position of certain control elements to suit your requirements, you can once again with San Andreas for WP.

Additionally, the graphics have been handsomely bumped, and can also be tweaked for improved performance. Compatible devices include the Lumia 1520, 1320, 822, 820, 810, as well as HTC’s 8XT. At this point, the likes of the flagship Lumia 920 and Samsung’s fake-brushed-metal Ativ S are not on the list of supported handsets, so if you happen to own either – or indeed anything else not specified – please don’t part with your money.

Speaking of which, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for Windows Phone can be purchased for $6.99, and is available via the link below.
