Google Play Music For Android Updated, Brings Support For More Google TV Boxes, Rich Notifications And More

Google’s Play Music app has just been updated over at the Play Store, and will now play nice on even more Google TV devices. As well as that, those running the much-lauded Jelly Bean (4.1) firmware will see rich notifications, rendering the update rather significant indeed.

Hitherto, some of the more recent Google TV boxes – namely the immensely-popular Vizio Co-Star -weren’t compatible with the app, but thanks to this update, things should run smoothly from here on in.

Jelly Bean brought, among many other great features, a better system of notifications, offering rich interaction with apps without the need to leave your notification tray. You can now view album art and music controls in the form notification – rendering the whole business of listening to your tunes just that little bit more streamlined.

Unfortunately, it’s still only compatible for consumers residing within the U.S., and while this is expected to change in the not-so-distant future, the longer Google waits, the more likely consumers in other countries are going to be getting used to other services like Spotify and iTunes.

Google’s Music service first launched towards the back end of last year after another of the Big G’s lengthy beta periods, but with still no real inclination as to when the other big markets will be getting their fix, it’s unlikely to take off on a grand scale sans Apple’s service.

The reasoning behind the delay is that the music industry has yet to come to an agreement on, and hence sign the required licenses which would allow Google’s service to launch worldwide. It’s the same reason Spotify – which has been around in Europe for several years – only finally launched recently in the United states.

Having said that, it was reported earlier this year that Google wasn’t happy with the low number of early adopters, so it might be that this update and subsequent changes point to a more robust push on the lucrative music market.

Google Play Music version 4.3.609 is absolutely free to download over at the Google Play Store, and we’ve provided the link below:
