Microsoft has no more idea of how to create a good search engine than they have a working cold fusion generating plant. Bing is proof of that - instead of providing relevant search results, it gives you pretty background pictures, and advertising.

Going to have to agree with Andrew. MS might either be loosing its grip on the home OS market or getting some much needed competition. Either way I see that as a good thing.

A good thing? After the ME, XP, Vista trifecta, I don't think I can stand another crappy OS from them. To their credit XP is now rock solid (as I would hope after 8 years of development) and Vista is now usable. A resource hog, but usable. Windows 7 is great out of the box. But about 9 years to late in my opinion.

If, and I mean if, Google can standardize a flavor of Linux. Ensure good cross platform compatibility on gaming and hardware. Utilize a good office suite. And maintain it's open source roots for a virtually unlimited supply of potential new software. And maintain the cheap price (in most cases free) inherent in Linux. Then it's all over for MS. And given the general advances of Linux in itself over the past 10 years. I would say that is more of a reality than a dream.

Yes I run Linux. Moblin exclusively on my netbook (best OS by far I have run on the thing) and Fedora 12 x64 in dual boot config with 7 Ultimate on my new Notebook. I also run XP on my old notebook, and 7 Home Premium on an old Gateway I upgraded the heck out of.

It's catch 22. Gamers won't use non-Windows OS until games are ported to non-Windows but game developers won't port into non-Windows until there are sufficient gamers running non-Windows.
