Galaxy S5 Zoom Specs Leak Reveals 19-Megapixel Camera Onboard

You have to admire Samsung’s continued and irrepressible efforts to push such a high volume of top-end devices out into the market as possible, and in doing so, appeal to as many different niches as it can. As was the case with the Galaxy S4, the just-announced Galaxy S5 will spawn a bunch of spin-off handsets, and following on from the camera-centric Galaxy S4 Zoom, we now how have what looks a fairly legit leak of the Galaxy S5 Zoom’s tech specs via GFXBench.

While last year’s Zoom did pack a reasonably good camera, the remainder of its on-board hardware was certainly nothing to write home about. This time around, though, it appears that Samsung will be beefing up the innards of its snap-happy handset, which is powered by a hexa-core Exynos SoC similar to what we got with the Galaxy Note 3 Neo. The benchmark results show the processor clocked at 1.3GHz, but this is likely just a reading of the four Cortex-A7 cores, not taking into account the two Cortex-A15s which should bring the clock speed up to a more generous 1.7Ghz.

Elsewhere, you get a healthy 2 gigs of RAM, 16GB of on-board storage (likely, if not certainly expandable by means of a microSD slot), as well as support for NFC. Additionally, as is the case with the main Galaxy S5, the Zoom should run on KitKat 4.4.2 right out of the box, and although this benchmark could easily have been faked, it does indicate that the device will indeed run on the very latest edition of Google’s Android.

Let’s be honest, though, prospective owners of the device are only going to consider most of the aforementioned hardware components as a mere afterthought to the capabilities of the camera, which, we assume, would be the main reason for purchasing a smartphone with such a disproportionately large lens. Regarding the rear-facing shooter, it’s set to offer a 19-megapixel sensor (a reasonable bump from the 16-megapixel offering of the S4 Zoom), and although there’s no word on optical zoom, we’d presume that it will be at least as good as the 10x helping of the Galaxy S5 Zoom’s would-be predecessor.

As for the display, the device will pack a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display, offering a reasonably solid 720p resolution.

It is thought that the Galaxy S5 Zoom will début in May, and as further details emerge, we’ll be sure to let you guys know.
