Friday Labs is continuing to assist the rise of the home automation revolution with the introduction of a new HomeKit-compatible WiFi-enabled smart lock. The company claims that the new Friday Lock is “the world smallest smart lock”, with the hardware also looking to try and solve a number of the criticisms which have been cast onto smart lock hardware in the past.

The smart functionality within the new Friday Lock undeniably puts it up there with the best intelligent locks on the market. However, it’s potentially the physical product design that will appeal to would-be buyers the most.

In order to produce the best possible product, Friday Labs has taken the unusual step of actually partnering with the architectural firm BIG in order to come up with something truly special and appealing. The Friday Lock is the result of that partnership.

One of the biggest benefits of this latest Friday Labs addition is that its tiny footprint and appealing aesthetic is designed to easily fit over the existing footprint of any lock being removed to make way for the Friday Lock. That design also means that homeowners would only need a single color-coded plate to make the Friday Lock appear like it belongs and to blend it with the installation area:

The Friday Universal Baseplate is used to mount Friday Lock over the previous lock’s footprint – and it’s the first such solution in the world to require only a single color-coded plate making it simple and streamlined to match to your door. No locksmith is required.

The Friday Lock will also appeal to users thanks to its features which transcend the design. As an example, owners will be able to use a feature called Friday Assist which will utilize geofencing functionality to unlock or lock a door based on the location of the user. The Remote Key inclusion also makes it extremely easy for an owner to instantly grant or revoke limited-time or permanent access to an individual.

The interchangeable lock covers are available in plenty of colors: Steel, Bronze, Brass, Gun Metal, Nickel Satin, Porcelain, and Copper.

Friday Lock is also the only smart lock on the market now which supports Bluetooth, WiFi and HomeKit. It is available to pre-order for a price of $249.
