@kim: What I meant there was that I have Windows 7 RC x64 installed as a Host OS on which i'm running XPM and VMware Workstation 6.5 side by side without any problems what so ever.

I think your problem is due to the fact that XPM cannot be installed on a guest virtual machine trying to act as a host for another VM. However I may be wrong on this one.

Taimur:

you mentioned: James, I have Windows 7 x64 RC Build 7100 installed here with VMware Workstation 6.5 and Windows Virtual PC (with XP Mode) and everything seems to be working fine.

could you let me/readers know how you got the xpm to work inside the vm workstation?

I basically have the setup of window 7 x64 rc (7100) installed inside vm workstation 6.5, i installed the window virtual pc with xp mode, but when I go to open the xp mode, get the error of:

"cannot start windows virtual pc hot process. check system event log for more details --- windows virtual pc requires hardware assisted virtualization. there is no hardware-assisted virtualization support in the system."

my cpu does support virtualization, and the capability is 'enabled' in the bios setup

when i run the cpu virtualization/ms hyper-v system check (amd)
at least from the main host - it says that the system is compatible
----but not if I run that same virtual/hyper-v check in the window 7 rc virtual machine...., it mentions the system is not compatible, and claims my amd processor does not support virtualization when it really does...

do you have any ideas, insights?
did anyone else reading this happen to have the same issues? similar issues?

thanks,

I tried to install it under the XP VM, but it doesn't think the hardware exists in the system. I wonder if the drivers are only exposed to the VM if they were written as a Vista driver...???
