The famous cross-platform messaging app WhatsApp is now officially available for all users running the latest and greatest mobile OS from Microsoft, Windows Phone 7.5 Mango.
We had previously talked about WhatsApp for Windows Phone about five days back when we received the news that WhatsApp is available in the market. The app’s page actually did go live and the download did work for some people but, well, it didn’t for everyone. Now the app is available officially and available for everyone.
For the uninitiated, WhatsApp is a popular instant-messaging app that lets smartphone users send free texts and media messages (photos/video/audio) to other smartphone users. One of the biggest reasons behind WhatsApp’s success is its availability on multiple platforms: Android, iOS, Symbian, Blackberry OS and, finally, Windows Phone 7.

WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform mobile messaging app which allows you to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS. WhatsApp Messenger is available for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and Nokia and yes, those phones can all message each other! Because WhatsApp Messenger uses the same internet data plan that you use for email and web browsing, there is no cost to message and stay in touch with your friends.
We’re seeing glowing reviews of the app around the blogosphere. There is a bit of a sad news though: WhatsApp for Windows Phone 7 works exclusively with Windows Phone 7.5 Mango (which will release in a couple of weeks). Mango hasn’t released to the general public yet, but you can follow our guide on how to install WP7.5 Mango Build 7712 even if you aren’t a developer so you can start using WhatsApp.
If you’ve got a Windows Phone, WhatsApp is a must-download. Chances are, your friends have a smartphone too; get them to install WhatsApp and enjoy free texting and media messaging!
