Download: Apple Releases tvOS 11.2.1 Update For Apple TV 4, 4K

Just a week after releasing tvOS 11.2 to the public, Apple has today also made tvOS 11.2.1 available for download. The software that powers the fourth and fifth generation Apple TV, tvOS gives the set-top box the platform on which to run apps, whether they are games or streaming media services.

This new update arrives more quickly than many might have expected but can be downloaded now.

Updating the Apple TV to the latest version of tvOS, in this case, version 11.2.1, is a simple affair that merely requires going to System > Software Update on the device. From here, the update can be initiated.

As far as early indications suggest, this new release is simply a bug fix and performance release, rather than adding any new features that will get us all excited. One of those bug fixes likely relates to the access of shared users to the Home app. The update arrives alongside iOS 11.2.1, which also re-enables the feature that was previously disabled following the identification of a fairly major HomeKit security flaw. Apple had previously said that the functionality would be reinstated following a software update that would arrive this week and, true to its word, both iOS and tvOS have now received the relevant updates.

The current generation Apple TV 4K is Apple’s most capable yet and continues to receive software updates that further expand its abilities. With bug fixes and performance improvements arriving as part of this latest release, it further shows Apple’s commitment to the platform, even if it still remains unable to offer the streaming television service we know it has been trying to put together for years.
