We’re all for paying for great apps, but there’s no denying that there are few finer things in smartphone-owning life than getting a real gem of an app for free, especially when it would usually cost you money. Sometimes there really is such a thing as a free lunch, no matter what the naysayers have to say.

Here at Redmond Pie, we like to trawl the App Store and keep our eyes peeled for freebies so that you don’t have to. We don’t want anyone to miss out on a bargain because they don’t know their way to every corner of the App Store, so here’s a selection of iPhone and iPad apps that are free for a limited time only. If you’re going to download them, now is the time to do it before the developers’ come to their senses.

Let’s get started.

IntelliDrink ($1.99 – FREE / iPhone)

intellidrink

We all like to have a drink once in a while, but drinking and driving is just not cool. If you’ve had a beer but don’t know whether you’re good to drive or not, then we’d suggest you get a cab. If you’re just wanting to keep tabs on your alcohol intake though, then IntelliDrink is for you. By inputting the amount of alcohol you’re drinking, the app can work out your blood alcohol content and plot it onto a nice graph. All very cool indeed.

InAWorld…Drama ($1.99 – FREE / iPhone and iPad)

inaworld

Want to create a movie trailer but with your good self as the star of the show? InAWorld has you covered, and it’s available for both iPhone and iPad as a universal app. With over 400 audio clips to choose from, you’ve got plenty to be working with.

Jenga ($0.99 – FREE / iPhone and iPad)

jenga

Come on, it’s Jenga. You really don’t need any more of a description than that, do you? This iOS game has online multiplayer and is a universal app, so you’ll get both the iPhone and iPad version for free. You can’t say fairer than that.

Download it on iTunes here.

PhotoFusion ($2.99 – FREE / iPhone)

photofusion

Desktop quality photo editing on the iPhone, PhotoFusion is capable of creating some very impressive images. Filters, layers and all the other cool things that photo editors tend to have are all present, and for free, you can’t afford to pass this up.

picTrove Pro ($2.99 – FREE / iPhone and iPad)

pictrove

Free for just this weekend, picTrove Pro is an app that will allow users to search for images across a multitude of services. Want to find an image but don’t fancy hitting Picasa, Flickr or Google Images one by one? With picTrove Pro, you don’t have to.

Once again, there are some real bargains to be had here. If you’ve been on the lookout for a game or a photo editing app, or maybe something to make searching for images faster and easier, then look no further.

And it won’t cost you a penny.
