If you are a lover of beautifully manufactured books that will ultimately become a collectors piece, and have an interest in stunning tech product designs including how various Apple products have evolved over the years, then the chances are that your interest was well and truly piqued with the announcement of the ‘Designed by Apple in California‘ book.

The book, which has been designed and released by Apple as a tribute to immortal co-founder Steve Jobs, is available to purchase in two different sizes, and showcases page-after-page a detailed account of the evolution of Apple’s most iconic products in last 20 years.

Steve Jobs and Apple fans, or for that matter those who appreciate beautiful products with a beautiful design, and of course, stunning photography courtesy of Andrew Zuckerman, really need to experience this book in real-life to get a true understanding of what it’s all about, but for those that aren’t able to afford the $199/$299 price-tag, it is actually possible to immerse yourself in the book via a new video.

Of course, it’s nothing like the real thing, but it acts as a fairly good introduction to the book and could actually help convince you to make that purchase. Rather than just jumping into actually turning the pages and showing off the products on each page, the video actually takes more of an overview approach that includes investigating the quality of the book’s production, taking into account how thick and robust the covers are, and how the pages of the book make use of every inch of available space by going from edge-to-edge. There’s also the fact that the books are wrapped in a high-quality linen to give it that minimalist, clinical feel, with both sizes offering an embossed Apple logo experience.

When you actually get into the book itself, and flip through the initial blank pages, as well as the dedication to Steve Jobs and the introduction by Jony Ive, you are immediately greeted by the first-generation of the iMac. Within the first few pages, as we navigate through the 90s era, there’s a lot of translucent plastic going on in Apple’s products, with the first iMac, the forgotten about iBook, and, of course, the stunning Cinema Display.

Check out the video embedded below for yourself and see what you think of all the 300 pages with over 450 photos of Apple product design over the last 20 years. Is it enough to tempt you into a purchase?
