Change Screen Density/Resolution Of Your Android Device With LCD Resolution [ROOT ONLY]

With all these HD-display toting smartphones out in the market today, there is now a way to ensure you make maximum use of displays by “changing” their resolution. We’ll be covering an app that does this for your device and you can check it out after the break!

The discovery comes from our friends over at PocketNow.com – a blog dedicated to covering the latest and greatest in smartphones and the technology that powers them – in the form of a short blog post in which they talk about an app called LCD Resolution.

Developed by Wemobs Labs, LCD Resolution changes the pixel density of your Android-powered device which makes it look like you’ve changed the resolution of your screen.

From Android Market:

ROOT (+Busybox) required!

This app change the LCD density.
It will result like you change screen resolution.

* It’s not supported on all devices.

For most people, its use won’t readily obvious. Why would you want to ever lower screen density? Well, devices like the HTC Rezound, Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Note, with their huge HD displays, don’t make good use of the high-resolution available: UI elements like icons, widgets etc. are increased in size to accommodate for the higher resolution. This certainly helps make things look sharp, but it wastes a lot of space which you may want to recover.

LCD Resolution lowers the screen density, so you can actually make use of the great screen real-estate available. Once you launch the app, you get a simple slider with which you can adjust screen density. Lowering the density means you’ll be able to pack in more items on screen and increasing, obviously, means the exact opposite.

We’ve tested the app on a Samsung Galaxy S II on Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread and, well, it didn’t work for us. This probably has something to do with LCD Resolution being incompatible with the Samsung TouchWiz UI launcher. If you’ve got the stock launcher, though, it will work for you; just like it worked for PocketNow’s Galaxy Note and Galaxy S II with ADW Launcher:

LCD Resolution is a free app that works on rooted Android devices. Download it from the link below:
