GreenPois0n to Jailbreak iPhone 3.2 and iPad Untethered

Developer of GreenPois0n – p0sixninja has just posted a long detailed post, clearing out the confusions that many of you may be having regarding GreenPois0n, Chronic Dev Team and their authenticity. According to him, they have have found an exploit in the latest iPhone 3.1.3 firmware which will be able to unlock and jailbreak iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), and iPod touch 3G untethered. All they are now waiting is for the iPad with iPhone 3.2 to hit shelves on April 3rd.

Last month, another iPhone hacker and developer named Sherif Hashim also found an exploit for the latest baseband. This exploit was sent to iPhone Dev-Team and they confirmed that it was working but didn’t give any ETA on when or if they are going to release a tool which is going to unlock iPhone 3.1.3 05.12.01 Baseband for iPhone 3G and 3GS. Maybe they don’t want to waste this all important exploit for this minor update and instead will use it when the major update such as iPhone 3.2 or iPhone 4.0 is released with the iPad and or next-gen iPhone 4G. George Hotz (aka geohot) is also said to have a similar exploit which he will use the next version of blacksn0w.

iPhone 3.2 SDK Beta 5 Now Available for iPad

Apple has just released yet another update to iPhone 3.2 SDK for iPad. This Beta 5 of iPhone OS 3.2 SDK for iPad has been released only a week after Beta 4 was released. This release will most probably be the last Beta release as the devices are scheduled to ship with the final version on April 3.

Members enrolled in the iPhone Developer Standard or Enterprise Program can access the development bits of iPhone OS 3.2 Beta 5 for iPad by signing into Apple Developer Connection. Beta 3 of the SDK was released last month on February 24th, Beta 2 was released on February 10th, while the first Beta was released back in January when iPad was first officially announced by Apple.

Last week, Apple Store in the US was updated to include the new iPad, both the Wi-Fi only version, and Wi-Fi + 3G version for pre-orders. The Wi-Fi only model comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions and are available for $499, $599 and $699 respectively. It will ship on 3rd April for free. The Wi-Fi + 3G version of iPad also comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions and can be bought for $629, $729 and $829 respectively. The Wi-Fi + 3G version however wont ship before late April 2010.

Formula 1 in association with Vodafone has released official F1 timing app for iPhone and some Windows Phones like HTC HD2 which lets you track the progress of each and every driver and their respective teams – from their current position and best lap time to their latest sector times and lap count, all LIVE. You can watch the top drivers in the World, including 7 times champion Michael Schumacher as they compete for the ultimate drivers crown of the year.

Formula1.com’s free 2010 Application streams real-time data directly from Formula One Management’s Technical Centre at the race track. It displays information supplied to the teams from every session of the Grand Prix weekend, instantly putting you at the heart of the action.

To get this app, simply point your phone to http://mobile.formula1.com to download and install this app for free. iPhone users can alternatively get it from iTunes App Store as well.

This app is also available for a number for Nokia, RIM and Sony Ericsson phones. Full list of supported handsets and platforms can be found here. No Android phone is listed which is kind of strange given the growing popularity of the platform.

Android and iPhone to get PlayStation 3 like Graphics in 3 Years

Imagination Technology, makers of the PowerVR GPU chip has said that we will definitely have “graphics comparable to the PlayStation 3 in three years” time. For those of you who don’t know, PowerVR GPU chip is the one that powers both, the iPhone and Motorola Droid.

They know this because they are probably working on one such thing right now, and it will take about full 3 years from now – this includes the development process, licensing deals with OEMs, and incorporation of these chips into consumer oriented handsets.

Since most phones by then would be using the same chip, it will eventually come to down to the manufacturers like Apple, HTC, Motorola and others to decide on how much power they want to push from their respective handset. Year 2013, you cant get here soon enough. [via Gizmodo]

iPhone 4.0 to Support Multitasking?

According to the reliable sources at AppleInsider, folks in Cupertino are preparing to finally bring multitasking support in the next version 4.0 of iPhone OS. If this rumor holds up to be true, then Apple can finally silence all the iPhone critiques who have been praising the rival Google’s Android for its superiority in multitasking support; something which iPhone has lacked since day 1 with the original iPhone (EDGE) launch back in 2007.

Jailbroken iPhone users may already know about ProSwitcher and Backgrounder apps which enables true multitasking on both iPhone and iPod touch. iPhone itself has some sort of multitasking support for stock apps like Mail, iPod which keeps running in the background while you can browse the web, and do some other work. But you cant do this with all apps unless you are jailbroken. All this is now said to change come this June.

The next-gen iPhone along with the new 4.0 firmware is likely to be unveiled at this year’s WWDC conference. It is expected to feature a faster processor, a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, support for WiFi-N standard and so on.

New Gestures Found and Camera Features Removed in Newest iPad SDK

9to5Mac is reporting that a couple of new gestures have been uncovered in the the iPhone SDK 3.2 Beta 4. There seems to be a triple tap gesture and a long press gesture revealed. In the gestures folder, a couple of new plist files have been discovered: "3Tap.plist" and "LongPress.plist".

With the larger real estate of the iPad screen, there would have to be more gestures to do everything. Presumably, the Long Press could bring up the pop-overs. The Triple Tap could be used to save steps, where the Double Tap brings up a menu to select something else. Just speculating here. Although, I thought we already had a long press, where you can press and hold an image to bring up the "Save Image" menu, or is that part of the copy/paste feature? So many questions, still!

Another thing revealed in the newest SDK, is that all the camera features that were discovered in the previous version of the SDK, have been removed. This pretty much confirms that the iPad may have had a camera at some point during the creation of the iPad, but was pulled late in the design. We may never know the reason for this, but maybe we’ll get the camera on the next iPad.

With all this info coming out in the SDK, we still do not know the full features of Apple’s latest "magical" device. Just a little over 3 weeks until we get some real world experience with this device, then all this speculation can be over! [via 9to5Mac]

iDongle Solves Tethered Jailbreak Issue

A new hardware solution for the tethered jailbreak has been announced over at www.myboyfriendisageek.com. It is called the "iDongle" and it is a small device that plugs into the 30 pin dock connector of your iPhone or iPod Touch. It solves the need to get home to your computer to re-jailbreak, if your device crashes or reboot on the go.

What is a tethered jailbreak? Basically, it is a one boot jailbreak. Limitations in the newer Apple touch devices prevent the full, traditional jailbreak that we know and love. With a tethered jailbreak, you have to re-jailbreak every time you restart your device. The easy way to avoid this, is just don’t off your device, but there are times when the device will crash, or reboot on it’s own. If you’re away from your computer when this happens, this can be really annoying, especially for those who rely on unlocking their iPhones to use them. The iDongle will allow you to re-jailbreak, on the go, so you never have to worry about crashes or reboots again.

So how does it work? Here’s some details from their blog:

Power-on your jailbreaked device
On iTunes logo, plug iDongle
Wait for LEDs to end flashing
Unplug iDongle or wait for boot

What is it ?
This is a standalone piece of hardware able to boot your jailbreaked device (a.k.a “tethered boot”), and optionally to jailbreak and hacktivate it if not already done.
Why do I need this ?
If your jailbreaked device is stuck into “recovery mode” (i.e Connect-to-iTunes logo) each time you restart or reboot your device, then it may be useful for you =)
How do I know if my device is concerned ?
Any iPhone 3GS made after week 40 (2009). The week number is usually the 4th and 5th digit of the serial number. iPod Touch 2G whose serial number begins with “MC” are concerned or any iPod Touch 3G.
Which device is supported ?
From now, iPhone 3GS and iPodTouch 2G/3G are supported, all with OS 3.1 / 3.1.1 / 3.1.2 only, but the later is recommended.
Will you support OS 3.1.3 ?
Maybe, or not. iDongle can be easily updated through USB. If jailbreak is available, I’ll try and post a free update.
Does it provide unlock ?
Not directly. Look for Geohot’s “sn0w” or Dev Team’s “ultrasn0w” package on Cydia.

They say they will have some prototypes ready for review next week, but no official release date has been announced.

Street Fighter IV Released for iPhone

Capcom’s much anticipated iPhone port of Street Fighter IV was just released last night. This classic franchise is perfect for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Many have been on the edge of their seats, since it was announced.

Here are the details form the App Store:

I haven’t had a chance to play this yet, but reports are that this is an excellent port of the game, with killer graphics, and with all the sound effects you know from the franchise. iPhone 3.2 SDK Beta 4 Now Available

Apple has just rolled out another update to iPhone OS 3.2 SDK for iPad. This Beta 4 of iPhone OS 3.2 SDK for iPad brings new API improvements and bug fixes to make sure it is all set before Apple officially releases the final firmware in shipping device come this April.

Members enrolled in the iPhone Developer Standard or Enterprise Program can access the development bits for iPhone OS 3.2 Beta 4 for iPad by signing into Apple Developer Connection. Beta 3 of the SDK was released about two weeks ago on February 24th, Beta 2 was released on February 10th, while the first Beta was released back in January when iPad was first officially announced by Apple.

Last week, Apple announced the official release dates for the much hyped iPad. The WiFi models of iPad will be available on retail starting from 3rd April, it will also be available for pre-orders starting from next week on March 12th.
