Apple’s AirPower Wireless Charging Hub Launching Next Month [Report]

AirPower. Remember that? Of course you do, it’s the wireless charging pad that Apple announced alongside the iPhone 8 and iPhone X in September but refused to give any indication as to when it would be available.

According to Japanese publication Mac Otakara’s sources, Apple plans to start selling the hotly anticipated and likely hugely popular wireless charger as soon as next month.

In its report, Mac Otakara cites unnamed sources who claim that Apple will begin selling AirPower in its stores in March. This follows similar claims made by The Apple Post a couple of weeks ago, and while no specific dates have been offered up, March is close enough that many will already be making room on their nightstands and office desks.

The Japanese site has a reasonable track record with such reports, and given similar claims have been made elsewhere we think there is a more than reasonable chance that we could indeed see the AirPower charger soon.

Whenever it arrives, AirPower will become the defacto wireless charging solution for Apple fans the world over. Capable of wirelessly charging an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X alongside an Apple Watch and the as-yet unavailable AirPods charging case. Apple is expected to sell the case with future AirPods while also offering it as an additional accessory for existing AirPods owners.

While the AirPower will be sold via Apple and its authorized dealers, interestingly it would appear that the AirPower wireless charging case will be an Apple Store-only affair.

While third-parties make plenty of wireless chargers compatible with the iPhone, this will be Apple’s first attempt at building a wireless charger of its own and will likely be the most costly of all those sold in its stores, although given the sheer number of devices it can charge, it may still represent good value!
